Our Story
The Pili Pono Project:
Thank you for visiting the site and considering to help with the Pili Pono Project, formerly known as the Aloha Angel Tree. Aloha Angel Tree started as a Kaka‘ako Christian Fellowship ministry led by Joshua Oyadomari-Chun starting in 2015. Pre-pandemic, KCF’s Angel Tree met needs of McKinley High School and McKinley Community School of Adults students who were identified by school counselors. Each request was described on a hand-drawn Christmas ornament created by KCF children and placed on a physical Christmas tree. KCF community members would take an ornament off the tree and fulfill the request, as an act of love and aloha. Community members returned wrapped gifts which were then distributed to the McKinley students and their families.

However, the KCF Angel Tree was paused during the COVID pandemic. And yet the needs in our community did not stop, rather increased. The new version— Pili Pono Project (formerly known as the Aloha Angel Tree)—is now online and envisioned to be year round. Community members may choose to meet needs in a process similar to online shopping: select an ornament that identifies a request, add it to the cart, then check out to commit to fulfilling the request. Then drop off a wrapped gift at a designated drop-off location within two weeks.
Now that the Pili Pono Project is online, our vision is to connect those with needs with those willing to assist all year round. So, check back at this site throughout the year and often. Thank you for expressing love for others through your participation in the Pili Pono Project. God bless! (Acts 4:32-35)
